Long's Theoretical Orientation
Michael Long's proposed theory of second language acquisition stems from the idea that conversational interaction facilitates second language development (Mackey, 1999). His work “evolved from work by Hatch (1978) on the importance of conversation to developing grammar and from claims by Krashen (1985) that comprehensible input is a necessary condition for SLA” (Mackey, 1999).
Long is credited for his proposed concept of Focus on Form and theory of Interaction Hypothesis. His theorized ideas contribute to the development of language teaching.
